Countertechnique Founder Anouk van Dijk’s first workshop in Berlin | 14–16 December!

This three-day workshop introduces Countertechnique, the movement system developed by Anouk van Dijk over the past 30 years. Designed to equip dancers with practical tools for a versatile, creative and sustainable dance practice, Countertechnique emphasises the process of translating information into action.

Each day starts with a Countertechnique class followed by a Practical Tools session, and after lunch we bring Countertechnique tools into improvisation and creation, with a particular focus on adapting to changing performance situations.

As performers, we constantly navigate different working environments, rehearsal processes and performance situations. Countertechnique offers specific tools and tasks to help dancers respond, adapt and remain versatile. Through a practical understanding of the relationships between gravity, energy, space and the body, dancers develop a more proactive and independent approach to their practice.

Working with codified exercises and task-based improvisation, we will explore how to make informed choices, expand possibilities and find greater freedom and enjoyment in dancing, both during training and creation.

Winter Warming welcomes professional dance artists and advanced dance students who enjoy working physically and wish to sustain and develop their practice over time. Both dancers new to Countertechnique and those looking to deepen their understanding are welcome.

WINTER WARMING 2026 FACULTY

Anouk van Dijk

Anouk van Dijk is a Dutch choreographer, artistic director and creator of the movement system Countertechnique. From 2012 to 2019, she was Artistic Director of the renowned contemporary dance company Chunky Move in Melbourne, Australia. She currently works internationally as a freelance choreographer and is the Founding Artistic Director of Countertechnique.

During her time at Chunky Move, she created large-scale, interdisciplinary productions, including An Act of Now, Complexity of Belonging (with Falk Richter), Depth of Field, Rule of Thirds and Common Ground. International commissions include, amongst others, works for Staatsballett Berlin, Hessisches Staatsballett and Theater Münster, as well as the large-scale production Out of the Blue for Skånes Dansteater / Malmö Opera.

In Germany, Anouk is best known for her collaborations with writer and director Falk Richter, including TRUST and PROTECT ME at Schaubühne Berlin, TOUCH at the Münchner Kammerspiele, and A Perfect Sky, currently in repertory at Deutsches Schauspielhaus Hamburg.

Her work has been presented internationally at leading festivals and venues, including Adelaide Festival, Sydney Opera House, Schaubühne Berlin, Dance Triennale Tokyo, American Dance Festival, Theater der Welt, SPRING International Performing Arts Festival and Festival d’Avignon.

Ina Schwarte Ortega

Ina Schwarte Ortega is assisting for Winter Warming Berlin. Born in Germany, Ina is currently based in Berlin and has been studying Countertechnique since 2019, both through workshops and at her university. After graduation, she completed four consecutive OBOC intensives in Amsterdam (2022–2025) and successfully completed the Countertechnique Teacher Training program in 2025.

Ina grew up dancing at Ballettschule Heidi Sievert and performing in the vibrant Münster dance community at Theater Münster, Theater im Pumpenhaus and LWL Museum für Kunst und Kultur. She graduated from ArtEZ University of the Arts in Arnhem in 2022, and has since relocated from the Netherlands to Berlin, where she works as a freelance dance pedagogue and artist. She has worked with all kinds of communities, including professional, amateur and community-based projects, and made lasting memories working with disabled and able-bodied people in collaboration with Introdans. She has performed in works by Keelan Whitmore for Tanzfestival Münster and 'Let's elevate' by Anne Suurendonk, and has performed at Delft Fringe Festival. Ina currently works between Arnhem, Münster and Berlin, teaching at motion*s Tanz- und Bewegungsstudio Berlin, Tanzfabrik Berlin, Marameo e.V. Berlin, TanzXchange Münster and ArtEZ University, among others.
