Workshop
‘Winter Warming’
What

Winter Warming New York 2026, from January 2 - 4.

Countertechnique Founder Anouk van Dijk returns to New York!

This three-day workshop offers fresh fuel for the year ahead. How to add longevity to your dance career? How to keep things interesting for yourself? Our ever-changing bodies need different care and stimulation every single day — and in this workshop, we’ll explore how to sustain a positive, creative work ethic, even when circumstances are not in our favour.

Each day begins with a 2-hour Countertechnique class, followed by a Practical Tools session introducing a new focus daily. After lunch, we’ll bring these tools into creation and performance, exploring how specific tools and tasks can support us beyond the class format — in rehearsal, on stage, and in daily life.

Building on Anouk’s choreographic practice, we’ll explore different entry points into making and performing — combining tasks and emotional states, imagery and reality, and weaving improvisation into set composition — and vice versa. How can a simple idea grow into a rich, layered embodiment, uncovering unexpected connections and reveal layers of meaning?

Winter Warming is designed for professional dance artists and senior dance students seeking inspiration to contribute to the creatve process, and keep dancing interesting while fostering a healthy, joyful work ethic. Be prepared to work proactively, think creatively, and perform at a high physical level.
